Ann Rafferty received a BS in Biology from Boston University, after which she joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in the Republic of Korea working with leprosy programs. After returning to the United States, she completed an MS and PhD from Cornell University majoring in Human Nutrition, with minors in Epidemiology and Statistics. Her graduate work involved working with nutritional surveillance programs in Indonesia and Kenya. She has worked in public health at the county-level in New York state with the WIC program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) and at the state-level in Michigan with Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). In August 2011, she moved to eastern North Carolina and joined the Department of Public Health at ECU as a part-time faculty member.
