Dr. Basu is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Public Health at East Carolina University. Before joining ECU, she was with the Department of Healthcare Management & Leadership at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Basu received her PhD in health economics from Washington State University. Her research examines the economics of aging with a particular interest in the areas of long-term care delivery and financing. Dr. Basu’s work also investigates the importance of healthy lifestyle behavior in prevention of chronic illness, social determinants of health and the value of health economic evaluation in public health and healthcare decision-making.
Dr. Basu has started her research career at Baylor Scott & White, one of the largest healthcare delivery systems in central Texas where she participated in a variety of collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects focusing on population health, care coordination, disease prevention and health promotion. As a health economist, Dr. Basu is passionate about demonstrating the value of healthcare resources utilized towards promoting efficiency of care delivery and wellbeing of people living within the communities. Her research has appeared in health services and health economics journals.
