MPH Internship Profiles – Casey Kelley

Concentration: Health Behavior

Internship Site: Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC)

I worked on the Farm to School to Healthcare (F2S2H) program at RCCHC. F2S2H aims to encourage youth to eat healthy and live an active lifestyle. I educated students on healthy eating principles and kitchen safety by incorporating vegetables into new recipes and exposing them to new fruits. Our Garden Stewards (high school students) also managed a series of community gardens and operated their own farmers’ markets where they sold the produce they helped grow. Markets were strategically placed in locations that were easy to get to and supported a population that had difficulty accessing fresh fruits and vegetables.
