Pokhrel submits application for patent

Lok Pokhrel

DPH and HEP faculty member Dr. Lok Pokhrel had his US Provisional Patent application filed successfully today with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent is titled, “Corona-decorated Nanoparticles as Antiviral Agents Against SARS-CoV-2, and Intermediates, Compositions and Treatments Using the Same.” Through the patent, Dr. Pokhrel outlines several inventive concepts and makes 41 claims about how Corona-decorated Nanoparticles and its derivatives could serve as antiviral agents against SARS-CoV-2, a causative organism for COVID-19. Given the ongoing pandemic due to COVID-19 and the lack of approved therapy and vaccines, the invention will enable Dr. Pokhrel and his team to seek for larger funding opportunities to test for proof-of-concept (PoC), target validation, and preclinical testing before it can move forward with clinical trials in humans to determine its efficacy and safety. Congratulations, Dr. Pokhrel!
