MPH Internship Profiles – Megan Williams

Megan WilliamsConcentration: Health Behavior

Field Placement Site: NC Department of Health and Human Services, Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiatives (TPPI)

During my time with TPPI, I worked with two different programs (Project REACH and Adolescent Parenting Program (APP)). With Project REACH, I reviewed assessments required by the OAH to be completed and provided feasible recommendations to program facilitators for improvement in various categories. With APP, I created various instruments and collaborated with program coordinators to address areas of improvement within the curriculum. A list of resources was provided to coordinators to enhance the B3 curriculum based on feedback provided.

Advice for incoming students would be to begin doing research about possible internships during your first semester and don’t be afraid to ask for help from Dr. Bell and other faculty members about possible opportunities, they are very helpful and have lots of connections.

Make sure to have clear communication and expectations between you and your preceptor about your schedule, responsibilities and requirements. Be patient with preceptors as they are busy, and it may take a while to respond. The journey to find a preceptor can be challenging but worth it!
